The Kiwanis Club of Southern Hill Region recently met with the Brown County Chamber of Commerce at Indian Creek Wildlife Shooting Range. It was great to learn about the programs operated by the Ohio Division of Wildlife here in Brown County. To learn more get their app, HuntFish OH.
The Kiwanis Club normally meets in Georgetown at the Eagles Club, 600 Ohio Pike, Georgetown OH at noon on the first and third Thursday each month. The club has members from all over the county.
All the Kiwanis projects are directed toward children, birth to 21.
On Sept. 8, the Kiwanis Club and the Eastern High School Kiwanis Key Club will be sponsoring a “Potato Derby” at Russellville Elementary School. This event is a fundraiser but also a family fun night.
Anyone can race a potato. For $6 you receive a potato and a set of wheels. You carve it into a race car, trim it, and race against a field of potato cars on a race track like the pinewood derby track that many are familiar with. This is a double elimination race, so everyone will complete at least twice. Kids, parents, and grandparents can all have fun racing against each other. Baked potatoes, hot dogs, and drinks will be available. Proceeds go to scholarships for high school graduates. Put Sept. 8 on your calendar and join the Kiwanis family for an evening of fun.
