Robert “Bob” Henize, of Brown County, Ohio passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, March 7, 2022 at the age of 69. He was born on November 11, 1952 in Brown County, Ohio to the late Robert Frederick and Gladys (Beebe) Henize.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years Frances Henize; his loving children Missy (Eric) Stewart of Lynchburg, Ohio, Denise(Mike) Brinkman of Glendale, Ohio, Bobby Smith of Batavia, Ohio, Donnie Burnett of Milford, Ohio, Tony Henize of Batavia, Ohio, Mike Smith of Batavia, Ohio, Jessica (Zac) Henize of Oregon, Crystal (Derick) Porter of Seaman, Ohio, and Lilly (Tommy) Donley of Eastgate, Ohio; his adored grandchildren Courtney, Joe, Alexis, Zac, Hayley, Sam, Kim, Aeriel, AJ, Peyden, Lionel, Blake, Dirk, Mason, and Logan; His first Great grandchild Thomas; His dog companion Dixie along with 4 brothers, and 7 sisters.

Bob served in the United States Army Special Forces during the Vietnam Conflict, he was retired from St. Bernard Soap Company in Cincinnati, Ohio. Bob also enjoyed fishing, hunting, outdoors and being a Pappy. He was also called the Candy Man as he was well known for his homemade fudge and treats that he delivered to family, friends and local business around the community during the Holidays.

A Celebration of life Service will be held at a later date.

Ronald J. Vilvens, age 70, of Fayetteville Ohio, passed away peacefully on 1.22.22, surrounded by family.

Ron is survived by his children Penny (Dennis) Mcaninach, Jason (Carolyn) Vilvens, and Tracie Sherman, 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; his siblings Bob Vilvens, Lois Vilvens-Campbell, Marilyn Vilvens – Fenner, and Rita Vilvens.

Ron was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Dorie Luke Vilvens; brothers Bernie Vilvens and Phil Vilvens.

Ron served in the Army and was a proud Vietnam Veteran. He often described himself as a ” crusty ol Vietnam vet.”

Services will be held at St. Angela Merici Parish on March 23 at 1:30 pm followed by an Honor Guard twenty-one gun salute by Blanchester American Legion 179.

Ethel Marie Colliver, age 95, of Russellville, OH, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2022 at Angels Care in Newtown, OH. She was born August 17, 1926 in Fleming County, KY, to the late Orville and Cintilla (Garner) Crawford. She was a Deputy Registrar and an owner of several restaurants as well as working at several restaurants. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, the Russellville Garden Club, Herb Club, a life squad volunteer and attended the Russellville Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Lynn Brooks Colliver; brother, Calvin Crawford; sister, Barbara Cornett and granddaughter, Carey Brooke Kieffer.

She is survived by her children, Barry J Colliver Sr (Diane Icard) of Cincinnati, Carol (Lynn) Smiley and husband Gary of Lake Waynoka, Vickie Kieffer and husband Terry of Sardinia; sister, Jean Downard of Dayton; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 14, 2022 at 12:00 PM at the Meeker Funeral Home in Russellville. Bonnie Bohn will be officiating. Burial will follow at the Fincastle Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.

Travis Scott Flannery, 21, of Ripley, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at his home. He worked at Milacron in Afton, Ohio, was a member of the Ohio Army National Guard and an avid car enthusiast. Travis was born February 26, 2001 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Travis is survived by his mother – Tracy Weber of Ripley, Ohio; his father – Scotty Flannery of Ripley, Ohio; two sisters – Mary Griffith (Samuel) of Maineville, Ohio and Shannon Popham (Joseph) of Independence, Kentucky; one brother – Triston Blevins of Manchester, Ohio; maternal grandparents – Roman and Phyllis Weber of Ripley, Ohio; four nieces and four nephews. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents – Louis and Pansy Flannery.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at Cahall Funeral Home in Ripley, Ohio. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00 P.M. Wednesday. Interment will follow the funeral service in Maplewood Cemetery in Ripley.

COOPER, Kenneth Arthur, loving husband of Nancy A. Cooper who preceded him in death, loving son of the late Marshall and Jeanette Cooper, loving father of Annette (Bob) Lauer, Lynette Cooper and Teresa Cooper, Loving Grandfather of Rob (Kassidy) Lauer and Tom (Ashlynn) Lauer, great-grandfather of 5, passed away Monday, March 7, 2022 at the age of 80.

Ken served his country in the National Guard for 11 years. He worked for the Ford Motor Company for 42 years. In his free time Ken greatly enjoyed helping to run the N.N.E. Say Soccer Program allowing children of all ages to enjoy soccer. In retirement, he frequently volunteered his time and loved taking care of his birds, squirrels and cats. Services have been held. Ruth A. Davis (nee Henize), 85, of Mt. Orab peacefully passed March 2, 2022 after a long battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 68 years, Joseph (Jerry) Davis, her beloved daughters, Jerry Kay Bellamy and Julie Shannon, her parents Lee Otis and Sarah Loudon Henize, and her brother Lee Otis Henize, Jr.

She will be desperately missed by her children, Robert L. Daivs (Lee Ann), Janie Spicker (Rob), Becky Seale (Aaron) and Chris Davis. She is also survived by her siblings Pete Henize, John Henize, Mary Nickerson (Jack), Betty Lantrip (Jerry Clover), Donna Wagers and Chuck Henize (Marlene), as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ruth grew up in Felicity and she and Jerry raised their family in Bethel, OH.

She retired from Jewish Hospital in 2003, shortly after she and Jerry moved to Mt. Orab where they spent many years together making and selling crafts and hitting lots of yard sales. She loved watching birds and other wildlife outside her windows and growing Christmas cactus and other plants inside. Ruth was a long time member of the Buford Church of Christ and cherished the friends she made there. Her family and many friends will miss her wisdom, humor, loving support, and her willingly shared opinions.

The family plans to have a Celebration of Life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Buford Church of Christ or your favorite charity.

Carpenter chosen for Cincy Chamber’s Next Class

Kelsey Carpenter, a 2011 graduate of Ripley High School, was recently chosen to be part of the Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce’s Cincy Next leadership development program. Kelsey, the daughter of Mark and Aimee Carpenter of Ripley, is also a 2015 graduate of Mount St. Joseph University and is currently the Senior Manager, Partnerships for the Western & Southern Open.

Cincy Next is an eight-month leadership development program designed for emerging leaders looking to advance personally and professionally by developing new leadership skills and connecting with peers in various fields.

47 leaders from a variety of organizations in the Cincinnati region have been accepted for Class 9 of Cincy Next, a leadership development program produced by the Leadership Center at the Cincinnati Regional Chamber and presented by Fifth Third Bank.

Cincy Next is designed for emerging leaders in their early twenties to early thirties with less than eight years of professional experience. The program helps these individuals connect with other young talent from across the region and develop both professionally and personally. The program covers a variety of professional development topics, including personal branding, conflict management, goal setting, and more.

“As the name suggests, Cincy Next is about identifying and connecting the region’s future leaders,” says Andrea Mersmann, Leadership Programs Manager at the Leadership Center at the Cincinnati Regional Chamber. “Through the program, these emerging leaders will grow personally and professionally while building relationships and new connections to the communities in which they work and live.”

Grand opening held for Mt. Orab Gold Star

The Brown County Chamber of Commerce hosted a grand opening for Gold Star in Mt. Orab on March 3, which is now under new ownership.

The Gold Star in Mt. Orab, located at 221 S. High Street, originally opened in 1993 and has served its community with pride, positivity and plenty of affordable, family-friendly meals. Now, the restaurant’s new owner looks to continue the tradition that has made the location a staple of the community for nearly 30 years.

Lance Sizemore became the new owner of Gold Star Mt. Orab on Monday, Jan. 3, 2022, completing the sale of the restaurant from original franchisees Gary and Ann Wallace. In addition to his Ace Hardware and Anytime Fitness franchise locations, the restaurant is the first Gold Star franchise for Sizemore. Sizemore is currently further investing in the business with plans to remodel the location later in 2022.

“I’m excited to announce that I have purchased the Mt. Orab Gold Star from the Wallace Family. They have spent more than 28 years serving the community and I hope to expand on their years of success. We are also proud to announce that the location’s General Manager Angela Rogg is staying and is excited to see the store grow,” Sizemore said. “Our team is excited to add Gold Star to our family of brands!”

Gold Star President and CEO Roger David is excited to welcome Sizemore to the company’s growing list of franchisees.
