The Hamersville Community Action Team landed yet another grand success with their third food drive. On Saturday, March 11, 50 volunteers along with HCAT distributed a variety of groceries to members of the community at the Hamersville Church of Christ. Families rolled up to the church in their cars, empty and ready to be loaded with supplies. The food drive began at 10 a.m. and lasted until 12 p.m. The Interparish Mobile Food Pantry (IPM) from Cincinnati continued their partnership with HCAT, aiding them in the details of the food drive.

The first food drive HCAT held last year with the IPM foretold of the dire need of such a service. There were far more who showed up to collect groceries than anticipated, forcing HCAT to turn people away after running out of groceries. However, that has not happened in the last couple drives. HCAT has made doubly sure to be prepared for the surplus of people. In the most recent food drive, HCAT and IPM fed around 200 families. Since the first food drive, there has a continuous increase in the amount of people who have shown up for groceries. Word of HCAT’s efforts in providing aid and fun events has reached the doors of numerous families. Despite the 10 a.m. start time of the food drive, families were showing up as early as 7 a.m., demonstrating that the food drive is an absolute necessity for the community.

One woman was brought to tears because of her gratitude for HCAT and IPM’s service, remarking that it was the best thing to have ever happen in Hamersville. She is on a fixed income and runs out of food monthly, unable to buy toilet paper and other necessities.

“She was so thankful.” Teresa Gall, President of HCAT said. “This is why HCAT wants to do this for our community. It is a definite need.”

The types of supplies provided have diversified to hit all kinds of product necessities for families. This time around, HCAT gave out a variety of household items including: toiletries, toliet paper, personal feminie care, toothpaste, deodorant, soap, and Lysol disinfecting wipes. They also provided gallons of milk, bushels of produce, and ham.

HCAT is determined to help the members of the community in any way possible and are always looking for ways to improve upon their previous events. The members of HCAT are devoted wholeheartedly to the cause, dedicating free hours of their time to making the events possible and the best that they can be. In addition to the HCAT team, there were around 50 volunteers from the community who helped distribute groceries.

HCAT is deeply appreciative of the volunteers and IPM for assisting in continuing the food drives. It is a combined effort of many hands, and much time from others given. HCAT is thrilled to share another food drive that will pick up again on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The next upcoming event sponsored by HCAT is their Easter Extravaganza, happening on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at the Hamersville Elementary and Middle School. Kids between ages 1 through 17 are invited to join for a day of games, crafts, pictures with the Easter Bunny and so much more at 2 p.m. A special needs area is also graciously provided. There will be an Easter egg hunt at 4 p.m. Come join them for an Easter celebration.
