St. Michael School in Ripley held its annual Science Fair for the 2017 school year on Feb. 9. Students in preschool, kindergarten, first, and second grades presented a project as a class focusing on students using the scientific method.
Students in grades 3-8 are required to learn and apply the scientific method to answer a problem of his or her choice. Each student must research and design an experiment to test their  hypotheses.
Professionals from varied scientific fields were invited to spend the day judging each project which consisted of a presentation that included a visual display.
The top projects from each grade will go on to the county science fair held at the Southern Hills Career and Technical Center in Georgetown, on Feb. 25.
This year’s  St. Michael’s winners included:
• 3rd grade- 1st place- Gabrielle Ernst, 2nd place- Sydney Arn, 3rd place-Kailen Offutt, 4th place- Tucker Helbling, 5th place- Ruben Latham;
• 4th grade- 1st place- Anneliese Depenbrock, 2nd place- Gracie Blackburn, 3rd place- Levi Ripato, 4th place- Xavier Ernst, 5th place- Jacob Poole;
• 5/6 grade- 1st Place- Alexandra Arn, 2nd place Shannon Nuernberg, 3rd place- Rhiannon Nuernberg;
• 7th grade- 1st place-Rose Fryman, 2nd place- Caroline Day, 3rd place- Chloe Little, 4th place- Kylie Purdon, 5th place- Paige Scales;
• 8th grade- 1st place-Emma Helbling, 2nd place- Aaron Teearden, 3rd place- Maddie Scales.
• Overall 1st place- Alexandra Arn, 2nd place- Rose Fryman, 3rd place- Anneliese Depenbrock.
