The Ripley Heritage Inc. and the Ripley-Lieutenant Byrd Chapter of the DAR will sponsor a Cemetery Restoration Workshop to be held on Saturday, August 6 at the Maplewood Cemetery in Ripley.
Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Ripley Mayors office, 123 Waterworks Road in Ripley according to Betty Campbell, organizer of the event.
“We are excited to have Misti Spillman, a well-known historian from Edgewood Ohio instructing this workshop,” Campbell said. “She specializes in cemetery preservation and will offer demonstrations on how to clean, repair and reset headstones.”
Campbell said the workshop will focus on reviving cemeteries. She will demonstrate how to fix broken headstones, set stones, clean them and especially demonstration how to mix the proper mortar for stone repair.
“The workshop will actually be held in Maplewood Cemetery,” Campbell said. “It will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will be made available to the first 20 people to register by July 29. The cost for the workshop is $25.”
