As the summer months draw tantalizingly closer, local high school sports teams ramp up their preparation for a postseason run. Another crucial step in that process was the reveal of the matchups for the sectional tournament, which were released Sunday afternoon.
In Division II, the Western Brown Broncos baseball team will face a familiar foe in their first-round match. The team drew the eighth seed and will travel to New Richmond to take on the Lions. The Broncos are undefeated against the Lions this season, having picked up a 7-4 victory on the road and an 11-2 win at home last week. The third match between the two squads will begin at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10. The winner will then face either Hughes or Batavia on Thursday, May 12.
Western Brown’s softball team will also have a rematch in the first round of their sectional bracket. The team will face Wilmington at home on Tuesday, May 10 at 5 p.m. Western Brown split a doubleheader against the Hurricane earlier this season. Should the Lady Broncos advance, they will face 13-seed Norwood at home on May 12.
The Ripley Lady Blue Jays drew a bye in the first round of their Division III bracket. They will face either top-seeded Reading or Madeira on Wednesday, May 11 at 5 p.m. The Blue Jays baseball squad will face off against the Williamsburg Wildcats on Monday, May 9 in Williamsburg in their sectional opener. CHCA awaits the winner of that matchup.
In the Southeast District, the Eastern Brown Warriors baseball team drew sixth-seeded Lucasville Valley in their opener, scheduled for May 11 at 5 p.m.

The Warriors would play the winner of Portsmouth and Zane Trace in the second round.

The Lady Warriors’ softball team drew the seventh seed and will take on West Union in the first round on Tuesday, May 10 at 5 p.m. Lucasville Valley awaits the Lady Warriors should they advance.
In Division IV, Fayetteville baseball will square off against the Georgetown G-Men in the sectional opener on Monday, May 9. The two teams were scheduled to face each other in late March, but weather cancelled the game. The Lady Rockets’ softball team drew a first-round bye and will await the winner of the second-seeded Georgetown Lady G-Men and Cedarville. The Lady G-Men will open their postseason run on Tuesday, May 10 with the potential game against Fayetteville occurring on May 12.
The sectional draw for boys’ tennis was held this past weekend as well. Western Brown’s Colston Roades will face off against Northwest’s Tu Cao while teammate Seth Hull drew Oak Hills’ Nathan Hill.
In doubles play, O’Hara and Cody Kirk drew another pair from Northwest High School, Thomas Chhim and Louis Girts. The final doubles pair for Western Brown, Carson Eyre and Clayton Wolf, will face off against Danny Hurley and Joe Merkele from Elder High School. The tennis sectional runs from May 11-14 and is held at the Sawyer Point Tennis Center.
There is no individual draw for track and field. Western Brown will compete at the Division I district tournament at Mason High School on May 17 and 21. Fayetteville, Georgetown and Ripley will travel for their meet at New Richmond High School on Tuesday, May 17 and Saturday, May 21. Eastern will participate at the Division III Southeast District meet at Southeastern High School on May 18 and 21.
