GEORGETOWN – A Georgetown man accused of attempted murder has pleaded guilty to felonious assault as a result of the Halloween attack last year.

Jack Ramsey Russell has been sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to the assault. Russell was originally indicted on three counts, including attempted murder. As per the plea agreement, the attempted murder change and a second felonious assault charge were dismissed.

The six year prison term in the Ohio Department of Corrections also includes a recommendation from Common Pleas Judge Scott Gusweiler for Russell to receive a mental health evaluation and mental health treatment. Russell is also ordered to remain free of drugs and be subjected to random drug testing while incarcerated and during his mandatory three years of post release control.

Ramsey was awarded a credit of 118 days while incarcerated in Brown/Butler County while his trial was underway.

On Halloween night police said Russell stabbed his friend Casey Bias with a knife in an attempted to kill him. The knife was later recovered in his home after Russell attempted to flee police. Russell was originally charged with attempted murder and a second felonious assault as a result of the attack.

The status of Russell’s mental state came into question and he was referred to the Court Clinic Forensic Services for examination. It was ordered on Feb. 9 that Russell’s trial would continue and he was competent to stand trial.
