GEORGETOWN — The Brown County Sheriff’s Office will soon have a new vehicle on the road.

The Brown County Commissioners completed the purchase of a black 2016 Ford Explorer Sport Utility Vehicle for BCSO use. The purchase price of the vehicle is $26,099.42, which doesn’t include the new coat of paint, county logos, BCSO logos, as well as other police equipment that will be added.

According to Road Patrol Lieutenant Larry Meyer, the new vehicle will be taken to MobilComm in Cincinnati this week, and should be out on the road by next week. Meyer said that two deputies will be assigned to the vehicle at any time. Meyer said the assignments hadn’t been decided yet.

“We like the all-wheel drive because of the bad weather,” Meyer said about why the BCSO asked for an SUV. “Price-wise they’re pretty much the same (as a sedan) and it’s an advantage for us to be able to get in and out of driveways in poor weather.”

The commissioners were in discussions to purchase a 2015 model, but late in the negotiations, Mt. Orab Ford offered the county a 2016 model at the same price, according to the commissioners. Sergeant Jamey Sininger drove the vehicle down to the commissioner’s office from Mt. Orab Ford along with sales consultant Zach Kushner.

During their Wednesday meeting, the commissioners approved a number of inter and intra-fund transfers. The commissioners approved a $13,006.50 transfer within the Brown County Probate/Juvenile Court, $6,000 was appropriated into two line items within the Brown County Engineer’s office, and $1 was moved into the Brown County Building Department’s planning commission salaries line in their budget, to avoid any issues with the end-of-year audit and payments.

The commissioners also approved an amended certificated of estimated resources for the fiscal year beginning Jan. 1, 2016.
