Aberdeen officials discuss funds

ABERDEEN – The village’s limited finances and the use of volunteer and community service workers were among topics of discussion at an Aberdeen Village Council meeting Monday, Aug. 16.
During the meeting, Aberdeen Fiscal Officer Rhonda Bothman requested council approve taking $35,000 from both the water fund and sewer fund beginning balances for the coming year. The money is needed immediately, Bothman said, to pay bills and current operating costs.
“We have had excessive bills come in and I am running out of money,” she said.
Bothman said the funds will generally go toward repair and maintenance of the water and wastewater systems, supplies and materials, and salaries for village employees.
She told council that the spending of money from those specifically designated funds has surpassed expectations. She noted that one recent purchase of equipment tallied a cost of approximately $25,000, and she added that some money moved from the funds for use in other areas of village business has not been repaid entirely.

Bailey Adams Aug. 28 and in loving memory of Michele Gaskins Aug. 28, my daughter Raegan and her friend Diedra Abrams both turn 19 on Aug. 29 and Randy Costa also celebrates his birthday on the 29th. Minda McDaniel has a birthday Aug. 30 and Crystal Moninger on Aug. 31.
Hard to believe it’s been four years since Rodney Kiskaden and my granny Cecelia Crawford passed away. Rodney passed on Aug. 28 and granny on Aug. 30.
Get well wishes to Alline Hines, Georgia Jackson, Richard Wainscott, Naomi Gaskins and Dona Starrett who have all been on the sick list. Also to Helen Waterfield.
Many of you may have already been contacted on behalf of Higginsport Fire and EMS for purchase of a family portrait. This is legit and we are sponsoring this fundraiser so please help support your local fire and EMS.
School’s back in session… yeah! In about a month Raegan starts back to college so on my rare day off I’ll have the house to myself.
We now have two ambulances in service. The “old” squad will be used as a basic life support unit. If anyone is interested in becoming a firefighter and/or EMT classes will be starting around the area soon. You pay for the class out of pocket but once you pass your national registry you will be reimbursed. We will also reimburse for the first time testing fee. Anyone who may be interested please contact Chief Starrett.
Good luck to all the RULH sports teams. Bring us home some titles! Go Jays!
Have a great week!
