What a time! With the backdrop of the westward setting sun overlooking the Ohio River Bob Laake met with the participants of the healing drum circle at the Ripley Lions Club Pavillion Friday evening. What a time of fun and entertainment; to be able to be outside made it all the more spectular. We are very sorry to hear that Edwin Dyer had some scary times that included surgery but glad that he is back on track. I was privileged to be a guest sharing table seating with Edwin recently. Happy, Happy Birthday Edwin on the 16th. |

This past week President Obama gave a speech in observance of the United States pulling its combat troops from Iraq. It was a deja vu moment in that it gave pause for us to remember another speech given by a former President seven years ago, who, from the deck of an air craft carrier in the Gulf, declared that our mission in Iraq had been accomplished. As we came to know, the former President was mistaken, and I believe that the current President is also mistaken when he declared mission accomplished by drawing our combat troops from Iraq. The mission in Iraq, if there ever was a legitimate one, will never be accomplished until every last one of our American military forces leave the nation of Iraq. Our mission in Iraq will not be complete until every American military personnel is safe from harm or death. |

Three local men were indicted for numerous counts of rape, sexual battery, gross sexual imposition and various other charges by the Brown County Grand Jury last week. According to Brown County Prosecutor Jessica Little, each of the three indictments is unrelated, and were brought before the Grand Jury this summer. “The kids were out of school, they get bored, and they have more time to get into trouble,” Little said. “Unfortunately, when alcohol gets involved they have a higher chance of getting hurt or having someone hurt them.” Joshua A. Polley, 33, of Russellville, was indicted following an incident that took place on or around Aug. 3, when he allegedly raped an individual who was substantially impaired because of a mental or physical condition, or because of advanced age. Additionally, Polley was also indicted for four counts of contributing to the unruliness or delinquency of a child and four counts of furnishing beer or intoxicating liquor to an underage person for four individuals. All eight charges allegedly occurred on the same day as the rape charge.
