Fans of local legends and horror movies can now purchase a movie with some Brown County talent and flair, as “The Legend of Haywood Hospital,” which began filming at Rockin’ Robins in Ripley in October 2009, is now being sold online. The film was written by Tammy Ruggles and produced by Aberdeen resident Jeremy Hamm of J and S Studios and is loosely based from the legends and ghost stories surrounding the abandoned Hayswood Hospital in Maysville. The film tells the story about a ghost associated with the old Hayswood Hospital overlooking Maysville. The spirit of a young mother in search for her dead child is seen wandering the halls of the abandoned hospital. The movie focuses on a young paranormal investigator who is searching for a reason behind the hospital’s hauntings. The movie was filmed in many places around Maysville and Brown County, including a section filmed in the Aberdeen Municipal Building, since the halls of the old Aberdeen school closely resemble the halls of the old hospital. Additionally, some scenes were filmed in Rockin’ Robins restaurant in Ripley. Other filming locations include Georgetown and Higginsport. The film was completed with the help of many volunteers. The main stars of the film include Nicole Jarrett as Ruth Hill, Aaron Bevard as Steve UpChurch, Bobby Mackey as the preacher and David Gray as the evil Dr. Musick. All other supporting actors and actresses are from Maysville and the surrounding areas. The film is available through filmbaby.com, and locally at the Iron Fist Gym located on Forest Ave. in Maysville. Each DVD is $14.99 and comes with special features. |

GEORGETOWN – The airport on the outskirts of Georgetown will be getting a face-lift this year. Brown County officials have pooled more than one half million dollars in federal funding to complete a variety of improvements at the Brown County Airport including resurfacing of blacktop and added lighting, Commissioner Bill Geschwind confirmed Tuesday. All of the money designated to complete the improvements originated with the Federal Aviation Administration, but the cooperation of two other counties has made it possible for Brown County to complete several improvements all at once. In a telephone interview with The News Democrat, Geschwind explained that the FAA allocates $150,000 annually for Brown County’s airport and airports in other Ohio counties as well. Unused funds can carry over from one year to the next, Geschwind said, but any funds that are not used within a three-year time-frame are returned to the FAA. However, counties do have the option of transferring their share of FAA money among each other. |
