RIPLEY – An altercation between a Ripley police officer and a suspect Wednesday evening has left the officer injured and the suspect on the run.

According to reports, Officer John Amole was transported by Air Evac to UC Medical Center following the attack, which left him with a broken jaw and a broken nose.

The attack happened on South Second Street just before 11 p.m. as Amole approached the suspect, who has since been identified as Kyle Moore.

After dispatch could not reach Amole, other officers were sent to the area. Amole was found on the ground unconscious with his weapon missing, according to reports.

A manhunt has began immediately for Moore, who had a warrant issued for his arrest earlier during the day for felony failure to comply with order or signal of police officer and obstructing justice. The Brown County Sheriff’s Office said they had Moore in custody after apprehending him at Ohio Valley Manor just north of Ripley. Reports say he stopped in the Manor to use the phone when he was recognized by people inside of OVM.

Chief Deputy Carl Smith said the firearm had been recovered by police at the scene. Moore is being held on a $2 million bond.
