The Brown County Grand Jury met recently and handed down indictments to 10 individuals, inclding Nicholas Keith Crawford.
Crawford, 27, of Higginsport, was indicted on one count of felonious assault, a second-degree felony. According to a probable cause affidavit filed in the Brown County Municipal Court, Crawford struck his victim, who was at one time his girlfriend prior to the incident, as well as bit her and chocked her, causing her to lose consciousness.
According to the affidavit, the incident began when Crawford began reading through the victim’s cell phone and loudly accusing the victim of dating other men. The victim said in the affidavit that at the time of the incident, she and Crawford were just friends.
The affidavit then states that after the victim sat down on a bed in Crawford’s home, Crawford punched her in the face, bit her in the stomach, held his hand over her mouth so she couldn’t call for help, and then choked her until she lost consciousness. When she came to, according to the affidavit, Crawford allegedly tried to convince her that she had only fallen off the bed, and that he hadn’t hurt her.
Crawford still allegedly wouldn’t give the cell phone back to the victim, and when he finally did, the victim called her mother and stayed on the line with the mother until she arrived at Crawford’s residence. The affidavit states that the mother and Crawford also got into a verbal argument. The victim and her mother then went to the Brown County Sheriff’s Office to file a report, and then went to Mt. Orab Mercy hospital for treatment.
Crawford was later apprehended on September 20 and is currently being held in the Brown County Adult Detention Center on $50,000 bond.
If convicted, Crawford faces up to eight years in prison and a maximum fine of $15,000.
Crawford pleaded guilty to a fourth-degree felony charge of theft of drugs in March 2014, and was sentenced to two years of community control and entrance to the STAR Program.

Jennifer Adams, 25, of Aberdeen, on two counts of trafficking in heroin, a fifth-degree felony.
Jason Andrews, 28, of New Richmond, on; one count of aggravated vehicular assault, a second-degree felony, one count of vehicular assault, a third-degree felony, and two counts of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, a drug of abuse, or a combination of them, both first-degree misdemeanors.
Joe Barry Belcher, 54, of Georgetown, on two counts of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, a drug of abuse, or a combination of them, both fourth-degree felonies. The two counts also come with a specification concerning prior felony OVI offenses. According to court documents, Belcher has been convicted or pleaded guilty to five prior OVI violations.
Ricky G. Burton, 44, of Peebles, on; one count of illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs, a third-degree felony, one count of illegal manufacture of drugs, a second-degree felony, and one count of aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony.
Yogendrys Hernandez Cruz, 27, of Louisville, Ky., on one count of improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, a fourth-degree felony, with specification for forfeiture of a weapon.
Adam Christian Klei, 39, of New Richmond, on; selling, purchasing, distributing, or delivering dangerous drugs, a fifth-degree felony, one count of illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor, one count of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, a drug of abuse, or a combination of them, a first-degree misdemeanor, and one count of operating a vehicle while under the influence of a listed controlled substance or a listed metabolite of a controlled substance.
Cody McCleese, 18, of Ripley, on one count of trafficking in marijuana, a fifth-degree felony, with specification for forfeiture of an automobile and money in a drug case.
Justin C. Taylor, 31, of Sardinia, on one count of possession of heroin, a fifth-degree felony, and one count of possessing drug abuse instruments, a second-degree misdemeanor.
Kyle Bradley Young, 30, of Sardinia, on one count of possession of heroin, a fifth-degree felony.
