Former Byrd Township Fire Chief Doug Day will serve as the grand marshal of the 32nd annual Decatur Day in The Park Saturday, July 11. The parade begins 11 a.m.

Day served as fire chief for 17 years. He resigned his position in February of this year due to health concerns, but remains a member on the department at this time. He joined the Byrd Twp. Volunteer Fire Department in 1983.

He is a life-long resident of Decatur, attending school at Decatur, Russellville and Eastern. He is the son of the late Roger and Virginia Day. He, along with his wife, Missy, owns and operates the Corner Mart in Decatur. He has two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Tia and Brian and Sara, and three grandchildren.

Day was employed in 1986 by Blue Flame and worked there for 23 years. He most recently worked for ODOT for two years; worked at the Chevrolet garage in Ripley from 1976-1982 and in 1983 worked for the Dodge dealer in Russellville until 1986.

He has served for many years on the Decatur Day in The Park Committee and has contributed countless hours for the betterment of his Decatur community, stated a press release.
